In the Middle East, where conflicts have roots stretching back centuries, Kurdish Christian disciple-makers connected with Global Catalytic Ministries (GCM) navigate the region's geopolitical, ethnic and religious complexities with faith. Brother H and Sister L grew up amid war. Today, as mature disciple-makers, they seek to remain focused on God's heart while friends and partners hold radically different views on the ongoing conflicts.
Sister L shares that conversations about politics and theology are exhausting: "We have very good friends in very different camps when it comes to politics and biblical matters." Brother H offers a perspective that goes beyond simplified narratives: "We have always felt that resources are what everyone is fighting over, but those involved would say they are fighting for other things." For him, Islam is an area of darkness to pray about, as are capitalism and Western politics.
As a father, Brother H helps his children process the realities of war by focusing on who God is and their role in His larger story. "I think that is why it is so meaningful for us to seek God's presence. To seek God's will in this." The key is to acknowledge the complexity while grounding it in a radical truth: "The gospel is for everyone. What Jesus did on the cross is what matters."
Pray that God will pour out His wisdom on all His children who live amid or watch the conflicts in the Middle East. Pray for softened hearts among peoples, nations and believers with different perspectives. May the gospel advance among every people group in the Middle East, and may courageous disciple-makers such as Brother H and Sister L multiply their impact.
