Overview

Jamaica has a predominantly Afro-descendant population, with small communities of South Asian (mainly Indian), Chinese, European and mixed origin. Joshua Project records 1 unreached people group in the country, reflecting the presence of ethnic groups with little access to the gospel contextualized in their own language and culture. Communities of Indian and Chinese descent, descendants of laborers brought after the abolition of slavery, remain a missionary frontier within the island itself. Christian expression is high among Afro-descendants, but syncretism with practices of African origin and nominalism are real challenges to solid discipleship.
