Jersey is a small, homogeneous island, with a population predominantly of British and Norman origin, plus a significant Portuguese community from Madeira, which makes up about 20% of inhabitants. There are no records of classic unreached peoples on the island in the sense of ethnic groups without access to the gospel. Jersey's missionary challenge is essentially post-Christian: a population that inherited the gospel, but which for the most part has drifted from active faith, living in deep secularity. The Portuguese-speaking community, with its popular Catholic heritage, represents a particular opportunity for biblical teaching and discipleship.
