Overview

Macau is home to 9 distinct ethnic groups, a reflection of its history as a gateway between China and the world. Most of the population belongs to the Cantonese Han people, largely without a living Christian faith, despite the church's long historical presence in the territory. Filipino communities, formed mainly by migrant domestic workers, are already predominantly Christian and sustain part of the local evangelical church's life. Other Chinese groups, such as Mandarin and Min Nan speakers, remain with little or no living evangelical witness among them.
