An overview of the country's people groups, focusing on those who still have little or no access to the gospel in their own language and culture.
The Maldives have only 4 catalogued people groups, and all four are considered unreached by the gospel, including the Maldivian (Divehi) people themselves, who number more than 500,000 people. Almost the entire population lives under an Islamic identity required by law, which leaves this people among the most closed in the world to the gospel. The archipelago is also home to small groups of foreign workers from Sri Lanka and South Asia, likewise without any significant evangelical presence.
