Overview

Rwanda is one of the most ethnically and linguistically homogeneous countries in Africa: nearly the entire population speaks Kinyarwanda and identifies, historically or culturally, as Hutu, Tutsi or Twa (a pygmy people, one of the region's oldest inhabitants). Joshua Project identifies 8 people groups in the country. The vast majority of the population, including Hutu, Tutsi and neighboring Bantu peoples, already has a strong Christian presence and is considered significantly reached. The two groups that remain unreached are small: the Swahili speaking community, mostly Muslim, and the deaf community, which almost entirely lacks churches and resources accessible in sign language.
