Aari

Life among the Aari centers on farming along mountain slopes. They cultivate ensete, known as the false banana, alongside grains, coffee, and maize, complementing their diet by raising cattle and sheep. Women produce decorated traditional pottery, while artisan groups maintain blacksmith workshops. Communities frequently organize communal labor gatherings, celebrating harvests with music and local beverages.

Although a significant portion of the population has embraced the Christian faith in recent decades, traditional practices and worldview still exert an influence. Many Aari maintain ancestral rites connected to land fertility and protection against nature spirits. A common spiritual challenge is integrating biblical discipleship into everyday life, overcoming spiritual fear and reliance on traditional healing rituals.

Rural Aari communities need improved access to health clinics, roads for transporting crops to market, and quality schools. Spiritually, the priority is deep discipleship and the development of capable local leaders, ensuring that churches grow rooted in the Word and are equipped to address social challenges with practical compassion.
