People
Who they are
Afro-Antiguans make up the majority of the population of Antigua and Barbuda in the Caribbean. Descended from Africans brought there during the British colonial period, they have developed a distinctive cultural identity, expressed through music, a rich cuisine, and warm community traditions. English and the local creole shape everyday communication in this community with its longstanding Christian heritage.
