Who they are

The Amasi, also called Banta, live in southwestern Cameroon, in Manyu Division, northeast of Mamfe, in about fifteen large villages in a densely forested mountain area. They are very isolated: even the village closest to the nearest road is at least a day’s walk away. Speakers in the north identify as Banta or Amasi; those in the south call themselves Manta. Even among those who identify as Christians, traditional religion still plays an active role.
