Who they are
The Araweté are an indigenous people of the Tupi-Guarani linguistic family living in the Xingu River basin, in Pará. They stand out in the Amazon for their traditional cultivation of corn and their rich textile production using native cotton. Although their contact with surrounding society is relatively recent, they preserve their cultural identity and seek ways to protect their way of life amid contemporary changes.
