The Asho Khyang, also known as Chin Asho, are an indigenous people who inhabit valleys and lowland plains in Myanmar and neighboring regions. Unlike other mountain groups, they historically settled closer to lowland populations, which profoundly influenced their language, culture and traditions over the generations.
They preserve their identity through their own language and strong community ties, passing songs, customs and the memory of their ancestors on to younger generations.

Most families depend on rice cultivation, fishing in local rivers and raising small livestock for their livelihood. Traditional houses are built on wooden and bamboo stilts, adapted to the humid climate and seasonal rains.
Community life is marked by mutual help during planting and harvest, with village decisions shared among household heads.
Buddhist faith predominates in daily life, shaped by contact with Burmese culture, alongside a strong respect for local and ancestral spirits. Offerings at household altars and participation in temple festivals express the search for protection and blessing, intertwining spiritual life with social customs.
