The Assyrians are a Semitic people originating from the ancient Near East, with a millennia-old history deeply connected to Mesopotamia. They zealously preserve Modern Aramaic, a language belonging to the same linguistic family spoken by Jesus, keeping alive their rich cultural and literary heritage.
Today, a large portion of the population lives scattered across the Middle East and in communities throughout the Western diaspora, following centuries of persecution and political instability in their ancestral lands.

Assyrian community life centers around the extended family and local parishes, which serve as social and cultural refuges. They place great value on education, commerce, craftsmanship, and the preservation of age-old culinary traditions. Hospitality is a hallmark of their culture, expressed through festive banquets and generous welcomes to visitors.
The overwhelming majority belong to historic Eastern churches, such as the Assyrian Church of the East and Chaldean Catholic churches. Ethnic identity and ancient Christian faith are inextricably bound, though many experience religion primarily as a cultural heritage rather than through a personal discipleship journey in the gospel.
A people only truly understands the gospel when they hear it in the language of their heart. See how far the translation has come.

After enduring repeated persecution and forced expulsions, Assyrians face the trauma of displacement and the struggle to preserve their identity. They need lasting security in their native cities and a personal encounter with the grace of Christ that transcends formal tradition.
