Who they are

The Avikam, also called Brignan, live in southern Ivory Coast, in the Grand-Lahou area, on both sides of the Bandama River and around the coastal lagoons. Many also live in Abidjan. Many families make their living from farming, growing crops such as cassava, coconuts and bananas. Most profess Christianity, but some follow traditional religions, and Christians who are more steadfast in their faith face pressure to use objects believed to protect against evil spirits.
