Traditionally farmers, the Bagobo Giangan grow rice, corn, coffee, fruit, and vegetables in the fertile soil of this volcanic region. Community life is organized around respect for traditional leaders and elders. They are known for their elaborately decorated, handcrafted abaca textiles, as well as dances and rituals that celebrate harvest cycles and community life.
Historically, the group’s spirituality has been rooted in animism, with the veneration of nature spirits and ancestors mediated by local shamans. Over recent decades, many have incorporated the Christian faith into their daily lives, although traditional practices and fears still strongly influence the everyday lives of many families.

These communities face ongoing pressure from urban expansion, deforestation, and land disputes around Mount Apo. There is an urgent need for legal protection of their lands, access to quality schools, and adequate medical care. Spiritually, they need ongoing discipleship so that the Christian faith can fully transform the cultural roots of local life.
