People
The Bali Mungaka live in northwestern Cameroon, especially in Bali Nyonga, in Mezam Division. They are related to the Bali Chamba peoples, and their history includes Chamba migrations to the place where they live today. Mungaka is the name of the language spoken in this community. During the colonial period, missionaries used it for communication and teaching, which gave it prestige. Bali Nyonga retains a traditional chiefdom whose ruler holds the title of fon and has administrative and religious duties.

Bali Nyonga is governed by a fon, the traditional chief, assisted by a council of elders and traditional associations. The people are known for their dances, festivals and use of masks in performances. Every year they celebrate the Lela Festival as one way of expressing their cultural heritage.
In traditional Bali religion, people approach God through relatives from past generations who have died. An account collected in 2018 describes Nikob as the creator and records the belief that he lives in certain trees, which must not be cut down. There is also a Presbyterian community in Ntanfoang, in Bali Nyonga, which suffered an attack during a worship service in 2021.

The safety of residents and places of worship is a concrete need in Bali Nyonga. In August 2021, an attack on the Presbyterian church in Ntanfoang killed a woman and injured the pastor. A statement from churches in Cameroon spoke of grief in the Christian community and the severe difficulties civilians faced amid the violence in the region.
