Who they are

The Bará, also known as the Waimaha, are an indigenous people living in the forests and river basins of the Amazon region, especially along the border between Brazil and Colombia. Part of the cultural complex of the Upper Rio Negro and speakers of a language in the Eastern Tucanoan family, they maintain a deep connection to the waters and the forest, preserving rich oral traditions and kinship ties that connect different villages across the region.
