Who they are

The Bassa-Kontagora live northeast of Kontagora, in the Mariga area of Niger State, Nigeria. In 1986, only about five elderly people still remembered some of the traditional language; the other Bassa in these villages spoke only Hausa, and later research concluded that the language had probably been lost. Followers of traditional religions make up the largest group, and there are also Christians and Muslims, with none of these religions accounting for a majority.
