The Blaan of Koronadal are an Indigenous people who inhabit the mountains and valleys of the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines. Historically known for their refined artistic traditions, they preserve a distinctive cultural identity expressed in traditional handwoven textiles, brasswork, and rich forms of communal music and dance.
Despite strong pressures to assimilate and the arrival of migrants on their ancestral lands, the people keep their language alive and remain deeply attached to their territory, seeking to balance the preservation of their heritage with the changes of the modern world.

How they live
Subsistence farming is the mainstay of daily life, with upland rice, corn, bananas, and tubers grown on the hillsides. Families live in small communities where traditional leadership still plays an important role in mediating conflicts.
Women are recognized for their skill in weaving natural fibers, while cooperation among neighbors characterizes the planting and harvest seasons.

The traditional worldview is based on belief in guardian spirits of nature and on honoring ancestors, accompanied by rituals to ensure abundant harvests and protection from illness. Although a substantial proportion have embraced the Christian faith, elements of folk animism still influence the customs and everyday decisions of many families.
