Settled primarily along the coast of Central America, they preserve a strong identity expressed through their own language, vibrant drum-based musical traditions, and communal dances.
Despite assimilation pressures and contemporary migration, the people maintain a deep attachment to their coastal land, their history of resistance, and a sense of community that unites them across national borders.

Community life is centered in coastal villages, where the sea and the land provide daily sustenance. Artisanal fishing and cassava cultivation play an essential role in the economy and traditional diet, especially the preparation of casabe, a thin cassava bread baked collectively.
Families are closely knit, with a strong presence and leadership of women in the domestic routine and the preservation of collective memory.
The majority identify with Christianity, which has been present in the region for generations. However, traditional beliefs involving reverence for ancestors and healing rituals remain deeply integrated into the daily religious practice of many families.
There is an ongoing search for spiritual protection through inherited ceremonies, coexisting with the practices of formal churches.
