Caldeus
The Chaldeans are an indigenous people originating from ancient Mesopotamia, with deep historical roots in the Nineveh Plains and northern Iraq. They speak Chaldean Neo-Aramaic, one of the few living languages directly linked to the Aramaic spoken in biblical times.
Recognized for their rich cultural and literary tradition, the Chaldeans maintain a strong collective identity. Over the centuries, they have faced successive waves of persecution and forced displacement, leading many families to seek refuge in diaspora communities across the Western world.

Historically connected to farming on fertile river plains and to urban commerce, the Chaldeans place high value on close family ties and strong community solidarity. Family gatherings and celebrations centered on traditional cuisine keep the memories of their homeland alive, even among those who now reside in urban centers abroad.
The overwhelming majority of Chaldeans belong to the historic Christian tradition, particularly connected to the Eastern-rite Chaldean Catholic Church. The Christian faith is intimately woven into their ethnic identity, celebrated through solemn liturgies in Classical Aramaic. However, for many, religious practice functions more as a marker of communal heritage than as personal discipleship.

Marked by recent conflicts, exile, and the trauma of religious persecution in the Middle East, the Chaldeans need emotional healing and social restoration. On a spiritual level, there is an urgent need for biblical renewal and authentic discipleship, so that historical knowledge about Jesus may become a living and transforming faith.
