Who they are
The Chipaya are an ancient indigenous people who inhabit the arid and saline lands of the Bolivian Altiplano, in the Lake Coipasa region. Descendants of pre-Inca civilizations, they preserve a unique identity and a mother tongue unrelated to dominant neighboring languages. Known for their traditional circular houses made of mud and thatch, they keep their culture alive in one of the harshest environments in the Andes.
