Daily life among the Darjee revolves around skilled craftwork and providing for their families. They traditionally work in tailoring and sewing, offering essential services in villages and urban areas and making everything from everyday clothing to ceremonial garments for weddings and festivals. In some regions, members of the community also serve as traditional musicians at social celebrations. Families are close-knit, supporting one another through economic hardship.
The great majority of Darjee practice Hinduism, taking part in traditional Nepalese festivals such as Dashain and Tihar. Their spirituality reflects both popular devotion to local gods and the search for blessings on their families and tools of the trade. Although they historically faced religious restrictions because of their caste, they maintain household rituals honoring deities they regard as protectors of the home and their craft.

The Darjee face longstanding challenges associated with social marginalization and dependence on low-paid work. Access to quality technical education and new markets for their skills is urgently needed. Spiritually, they need an authentic witness to God’s love that shows them their true worth and dignity in Christ, free from the burden of social rejection.
