Who they are

The Darwazis live in the remote mountains of Badakhshan, in northeastern Afghanistan, along the banks of the Panj River. Part of the larger Tajik family, they preserve ancient traditions in hard-to-reach valleys, where they speak a Dari dialect and maintain a strong communal identity centered on family life and Muslim faith.
