Who they are
The Desana are an Indigenous people living along the upper Negro River and its tributaries in the northwestern Amazon. Speakers of a language in the Eastern Tukanoan family, they are known for their rich storytelling tradition related to the creation of the cosmos and life in the rainforest. They maintain strong community ties through kinship, traditional subsistence farming, and a deep understanding of the cycles of the rivers and forest.
