Who they are
The Dodda-Weddah are an indigenous community in Sri Lanka with roots among the island’s earliest inhabitants. Over the generations, they have adopted the way of life of the Sinhalese majority, including its language and Buddhist religious practices. Even so, they retain elements of their traditional forest heritage and face the ongoing challenge of preserving their dignity and collective memory amid the country’s rapid social changes.
