Who they are

The Doondo live in the southern Republic of the Congo, in the departments of Bouenza and Pool, and are part of the wider family of Kongo peoples. They speak a Bantu language, also called Dondo or Kidoondo. Family descent is traced through the maternal line, meaning that ties to kinship groups pass through mothers. Most Doondo identify as Christian, and some families follow traditional religions.
