The Fa d’Ambu live mainly on the remote island of Annobón in the Gulf of Guinea. Emerging from historical encounters between African peoples and Portuguese and Spanish seafarers, they developed a distinctive island cultural identity and preserve their own creole language. They traditionally make their living through small-scale fishing and subsistence farming, maintaining strong community ties and rich oral traditions.
