People
Who they are
The Firan Izarek live around Kwakwi, in the Riyom area of Plateau State, Nigeria. They speak Firan, a language closely related to Izere. A survey published in 2021 describes its use among children and adults, including in some churches and in the marketplace. Every year they celebrate the Surgul festival, with a donkey race for men only. Most follow traditional religions, and Christians are a minority.
