Who they are

The Gamo-Ningi live in Ningi Local Government Area, in Bauchi State, Nigeria. The name combines two groups, the Gamo and the Ningi, whose earlier languages belong to the Kainji branch. Today most speak Hausa; a 1974 survey found only one Gamo village, Kurmi, still speaking the earlier language. Most follow their people’s traditional religion, and a sizable minority identify as Christian.
