Daily life centers on family farming, with special emphasis on the cultivation of ensete, the plant known as the false banana, which is the staple of the local diet. Villages rely on solid community structures, where neighbors actively cooperate in planting, harvesting, and celebrations.
Commerce and diligent labor characterize the daily life of this people, who balance agrarian work in the countryside with trips to regional markets to provide for their families.
The overwhelming majority profess the historic Christian tradition of Ethiopia, present in the region for many generations. Religious rites and the church calendar exert a major influence on community structure and social identity.
Despite the strong presence of Christian symbols and celebrations, many still maintain ancestral traditional customs, and there is only a small number of communities focused on evangelical discipleship.
