Who they are

The Gwa live in southern Ivory Coast, in the coastal lagoon region, as well as in Abidjan. Known as Mbato, they prefer the name Nglwa. They work in agriculture, on their own farms, in cooperatives or for large producers. Many identify as Christians but also follow traditional religious practices, including the use of objects they believe offer spiritual protection.
