People
Who they are
The Gwama live in the highlands along the border between Ethiopia and Sudan, in a region of rural villages. They speak a Nilo-Saharan language related to the neighboring Komo peoples, and maintain strong ties of kinship and local tradition. Their identity is closely tied to Islam, passed down from generation to generation.
