Who they are
The Helambu Sherpa, also known as the Hyolmo, inhabit the mountain valleys north of Kathmandu, Nepal. Drawing on a rich Tibetan cultural heritage, they preserve ancestral customs of community life and high-altitude farming. Their identity is deeply tied to their mother tongue and to Tibetan Buddhism, which shapes daily routines and festivals in their isolated villages.
