Who they are

The Huachipaire are an Indigenous people of the Peruvian Amazon whose language belongs to the Harakmbut language family. Traditional inhabitants of the forests and riverbanks between Cusco and Madre de Dios, they preserve a deep knowledge of the rainforest and a rich oral history. Their community continually strives to preserve its culture and protect its homeland as outside activities expand.
