The Ibanag are an Indigenous Philippine people originating from the fertile banks of the Cagayan River in northern Luzon. Everyday life among the Ibanag revolves around farming on the river plains, growing rice, corn, and tobacco, as well as small-scale fishing. The extended family is the center of decision-making and mutual support. Harvest celebrations and community gatherings strengthen relationships, with traditional cuisine based on local fish and vegetables bringing neighbors and relatives together.
The great majority of the Ibanag professes Christianity, the result of centuries of historical influence in the region. In daily practice, religious traditions coexist with ancient customs and local beliefs in nature spirits and spiritual protection for the family. There are also active evangelical communities that share the Good News in their own language.

The Cagayan basin frequently experiences severe flooding and passing typhoons, which destroy crops and cause material losses. Alongside economic recovery and better job opportunities for young people, there is a great need for ongoing discipleship so that faith moves beyond inherited religious tradition.
