Who they are
The Idate are an indigenous group living in the mountainous interior of East Timor, with a significant presence in the municipality of Manatuto. Guardians of their own language and communal traditions, they make their living from farming and maintain strong family ties. Although Christianity is part of their recent history, ancestral customs and traditional spiritual beliefs remain very much a part of their everyday lives.
