Jat hijra

The Jat hijra constitute one of the clans, or gotras, of the Jat people, primarily concentrated in the states of Punjab and Haryana in northern India. With a strong agricultural heritage and a tradition of communal autonomy, most members of the clan own land in rural areas, maintaining a deep attachment to their historical lineage. Religiously, they adhere to traditional Hinduism, with great fidelity to family rites of passage. The Gospel finds little receptivity among them, partly due to the group’s social prestige and the perception that the Christian faith is associated with other social strata.
