People
Who they are
The Kango-Uele live along the banks and on the islands of the Uele River and its tributaries in Bas-Uele, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. They live mainly by fishing, and women also fish and paddle the canoes. They speak Kango, also called Likango. Almost all identify as Christians, many as Catholics, but the use of objects believed to have spiritual power and the practice of witchcraft still coexists with Christian symbols.
