The Kasha are an indigenous people of the Nuba Mountains, in the heart of Sudan, a region of rocky peaks and valleys that is home to dozens of distinct ethnic groups. There they maintain their own language and African traditions, although many also use Arabic to communicate with neighboring peoples, reflecting centuries of intercultural contact in the region. Their identity is deeply tied to the mountainous land they have inhabited for generations.
