Who they are
The Kaugat are an Indigenous people who inhabit the lowlands and riverine areas of the island of New Guinea, in the Papua region. They maintain a strong connection to the local forests and rivers and communicate in the Atohwaim language. Although they have had contact with the Christian faith for decades, the community still seeks to strengthen its spiritual roots through clear teaching in its own mother tongue.
