Kavalan

The Kavalan are an indigenous people originally from the northeastern plains of Taiwan, historically tied to the coast and rivers. Following centuries of cultural pressures and migrations to the island’s east coast, they keep the memory of their roots alive through traditional crafts and banana fiber weaving. Although many have assimilated into more widely spoken local languages on the island, they actively strive to preserve their unique cultural identity.
