Os khvarshin são um pequeno povo indígena originário das regiões montanhosas do Daguestão, no Cáucaso setentrional. Falantes de um idioma próprio da família caucasiana e culturalmente próximos aos povos vizinhos, vivem em aldeias históricas de difícil acesso. Seguem a fé islâmica sunita há séculos, mantendo fortes laços comunitários e permanecendo inteiramente sem testemunho cristão conhecido em seu idioma materno.
