People
Who they are
The Koma live in the Alantika Mountains, in Nigeria and Cameroon. In Nigeria, their communities are in Adamawa State. They recount that war and poor soil led them to leave Cameroon and settle in a safer area called Koma, which means “we will return”. In a 2000 study, the Koma of Nigeria grew sorghum and pearl millet and raised goats and chickens. Most Nigerian Koma follow traditional religions, while most Koma in Cameroon identify as Christians.
