People
The Kukele are a people who live mainly in southeastern Nigeria, on the fertile river plains of Cross River State. With a cultural identity deeply rooted in community life and the preservation of oral traditions, they maintain their own language as a central element of social cohesion. Over generations, they have developed strong bonds of solidarity between their villages, passing down ancestral customs and stories through everyday life together.

Agriculture is at the heart of Kukele family livelihoods, with intensive cultivation of yams, cassava, and rice, as well as palm oil production. Villages are organized around extended families, with councils of elders providing leadership in daily life and mediating local matters. Harvest celebrations bring communities together to share and enjoy traditional music.
The vast majority of the Kukele profess the Christian faith and actively attend evangelical and historic Protestant congregations. In some areas, traditional devotional practices and ancestral animist beliefs still influence their everyday worldview, challenging local Christian leaders to foster discipleship that thoroughly transforms customs and biblical understanding.

Kukele communities face challenges involving basic infrastructure, roads that are difficult to travel during rainy seasons, and a shortage of equipped health clinics. There is also a need for ongoing theological training for leaders and materials that help young people mature in the Christian faith amid modern social pressures.
