People
The Kurumfe Fulse are a people with deep roots in West Africa, living mainly in the savannas of northern Burkina Faso and neighboring regions. Descended from the area’s earliest inhabitants, they maintain a historic connection to the land and preserve the Koromfe language among larger neighboring peoples.
Their identity is shaped by memories of resistance and the dignity of those who cared for the land long before the formation of the kingdoms that later dominated the region.

Daily life revolves around subsistence farming and small-scale livestock raising. Families grow millet, sorghum and beans in the intense heat of the Sahel, relying on each season’s brief rains.
Villages are organized by family lineages around shared courtyards, where elders make decisions and preserve oral traditions. Hospitality toward travelers and cooperation in planting shape the rhythm of community life.
The traditional worldview rests on animist beliefs and the veneration of ancestral spirits. As longstanding guardians of the land, many perform ritual roles related to soil fertility and natural cycles.
Although Islam and Christianity are present in the surrounding areas, customary rituals and the search for spiritual protection against unseen forces continue to shape the community’s daily life.

Chronic water shortages, desertification and prolonged droughts make survival a daily challenge. Regional insecurity has also brought uncertainty to many families.
Spiritually, those who have chosen to follow Christ lack support and fellowship and need firm discipleship in their heart language.
