People
The Larteh Gua are a community with ancient roots whose language belongs to the Guan group, settled mainly in the Akuapem Hills of southern Ghana. Known for their rich oral tradition and deep connection to their ancestral land, they preserve the Larteh language as a central part of their cultural heritage, even amid the strong influence of larger neighboring languages. Community life is guided by a traditional chieftaincy structure in which elders safeguard customs, historical memory, and the people’s identity.

Subsistence farming and local trade form the basis of family livelihoods, with cassava, corn, yams, and tropical fruit grown on the fertile slopes. Mutual cooperation is essential during planting and harvest seasons. Community festivals, filled with drumming, dancing, and ceremonies led by local chiefs, remain vital occasions for bringing the community together and reaffirming kinship ties and social solidarity.
Traditional beliefs exert immense influence over daily routines. Life revolves around ancestor veneration and seeking protection from nature spirits and local deities, often associated with well-known shrines in the region. Although nominal forms of Christianity have reached the area, fear of curses and reverence for ancestral customs still dominate the worldview of most people.

The region faces a shortage of jobs for young people, which often leads to migration to major urban centers. Spiritually, there is a need for well-trained local biblical leaders who can communicate the gospel at the heart of Larteh culture, fostering discipleship that dispels spiritual fear and strengthens families.
