Who they are
The Malas live along the coast of Madang Province in Papua New Guinea, mainly in the villages of Malas and Simbukanam. A coastal highway runs through the community, making regional markets easier to reach, and families support themselves through farming, particularly cocoa and coconuts. Although most profess the Christian faith, they face the challenge of passing the Manep language on to younger generations, who increasingly communicate in Tok Pisin.
