ReachedThe Maraqo, also known as Libido, live in the highlands of central Ethiopia, mainly around Butajira. They have their own language and preserve a strong sense of community identity, situated among neighbors of diverse cultural backgrounds.
Their society deeply values family solidarity and honor among clans. Although surrounded by rapid changes in the country, they remain closely tied to their rural traditions and the heritage of their ancestors.

Most families depend on subsistence agriculture. The cultivation of enset, the so-called false banana, is the staple of their daily diet, complemented by growing cereals and raising small livestock.
Community life is guided by respect for elders, who resolve conflicts and organize collective tasks, such as planting and building homes.
Islam is the predominant religious practice, shaping daily customs, celebrations, and the moral codes of the villages. Concurrently, ancient beliefs in ancestral spirits still influence the search for protection and health in difficult times.
At the same time, there is a Christian community present that seeks to live out its faith authentically amidst social challenges.
