Who they are
The Mel live in northern Kratié Province in Cambodia. They grow rice, raise cattle, and also buy forest products from neighboring peoples to resell to the Khmer. Their language is Mel-Khaonh. They use Khmer when interacting with the Kroul, whose speech they do not understand. Most follow the traditional beliefs of their people, and Christians form a small minority.
