People
The Mingrelians are a people of ancient heritage who primarily inhabit the Samegrelo region of western Georgia, nestled beside the Black Sea and the foothills of the Caucasus. They maintain a distinct cultural identity and speak their own traditional language, which belongs to the Kartvelian family, although nearly all also use Georgian in education and public life.
Renowned for their musicality, warm hospitality, and rich culinary traditions, the Mingrelians deeply cherish family ties, respect for their ancestors, and their connection to their homeland.

Community life in Samegrelo centers on agriculture and livestock farming. Many families cultivate hazelnuts, tea, corn, and citrus fruits, as well as producing traditional cheeses such as the renowned sulguni. Shared meals and festive banquets strengthen social and family bonds across generations, guided by the honored leadership of the elders.
The vast majority of the population adheres to the Georgian Orthodox Christian tradition, which is deeply intertwined with their culture and ethnic identity. Religious observances and family rituals mark the stages of daily life, though many practice a nominal faith without regular, personal engagement with the teachings of Scripture.

Spiritually, there is a profound need for biblical discipleship that goes beyond ritual observance, enabling people to experience the grace of God in a personal and transforming way.
